Colton Hill: “The IceCube Upgrade & Gen2 Detector”

Europe/London
Description

Over the past 10 years, the IceCube Neutrino Observatory has discovered a variety of sources and phenomena related to neutrinos and astrophysics. As part of planned expansions to IceCube: the IceCube Upgrade & the future IceCube Gen2, improved sensitivity to both GeV-scale and beyond TeV-scale neutrinos are expected. Driving forces behind these improved sensitivities are the new novel optical modules. The D-Egg, (Dual optical sensors in an Ellipsoid Glass for Gen2) is one such new module designed for the IceCube Upgrade, and all 300+ modules are now under-going final acceptance testing. The Long Optical Modules (LOMs) are further ambitious detectors in the design phase for IceCube Gen2. These modules have effective areas greater than 2.5 times that of the current generation IceCube sensors, leading the way towards further discoveries in the neutrino sector.
