Description
Light scalar fields have been suggested as a possible dark matter candidate, with interesting behaviour distinct from heavier thermally produced candidates like WIMPs. In this talk I will consider how to detect such scalars, if they have quadratic interactions with matter. This leads to an effective mass for the scalar field which can vary with the density of the local environment. We will discuss the implications of this for laboratory and satellite searches.
