LiquidO: What? Why? How? When? by Thiago Sogo Bezerra

Europe/London
Description

LiquidO is a novel technology for radiation detection and measurement using light. Unlike traditional Cherenkov and scintillator detectors, which use a transparent target to allow light to reach the photosensors, LiquidO employs a counterintuitive approach: opaque media. We achieve this opacity with short scattering length materials for the emitted light. The opaque target is traversed by wavelength-shifting fibres, which collect and transport the light to the photosensors. This arrangement allows for high-resolution imaging, enabling highly efficient particle identification from the MeV to GeV scale and many applications.

In this seminar, I will cover the main aspects and details regarding LiquidO, structured around the common interrogative words: What is LiquidO? Why is LiquidO novel and potentially groundbreaking? How do we develop LiquidO? When do we expect milestones and results with LiquidO?
