Title: Resonant conversion in media and external fields: novel avenues
Abstract: Resonant conversion processes in media and external fields can qualitatively alter particle production in astrophysical and laboratory environments. After reviewing the general theoretical framework for in-medium mixing and resonant enhancement, I will present several recently identified cases in which resonant effects dominate over conventional emission channels, with particular emphasis on anomalous energy loss in supernovae and red giants. These results lead to new robust constraints on beyond-the-Standard-Model light scalar particles. I will then show that resonant conversion rates in external fields can be significantly modified by a subtle redefinition of the underlying theory, and discuss the resulting implications for axion dark matter searches.
