Title: Enhancing Gravitational Wave Science with Differentiable Models and New Physics Searches

Abstract: Gravitational Waves (GWs) represent a fundamentally new way to view the Universe. In this talk, I will first demonstrate that compact objects which are significantly more extended than a black hole may be missed by the current LIGO-Virgo search pipelines. I will then discuss our recent search for objects with large tidal deformability’s and show how these results can be used to constrain models of dark matter and in the future search for low-mass binary neutron stars. Finally, I will switch topics and discuss how differentiable waveforms can substantially improve various aspects of the data analysis process. In particular, I will demonstrate how a combination of techniques can come together to perform full Bayesian parameter estimation in less than a minute, over 1000 times faster than traditional methods.
